Let’s cut it up with the Dadaists! This avant-garde artist movement spans across many media, but is best known for its use of collage. Artists such as Hannah Höch and Kurt Schwitters combined cheeky imagery with smart assemblage to critique politics and popular culture. They also re-assembled found text into new forms, from poetry to literary statements to masterful graphic imagery. We are going to use found text, papers and whatever images you want to create your own Dada comment. Look at magazines, newspapers, and junk mail, and cut and paste into your sketchbook. Add paint or decorative papers if you feel it needs more color.
