Who’s a cute Acryla tin?

The dust has finally settled on fall back-to-school and preparations for our annual Holiday Catalog…now there’s time to show off the catalog and all of the cool stuff we packed into it!  I will try to highlight one or two of the products we’re thinking about each week thru the end of the sale, so watch this space, as well as our Instagram and Facebook posts.

Holbein Acryla Gouache Custom Set Color Mixing Grid by Anna Miller

This week’s “star of the show” is the item we’re most excited about in the whole catalog: our exclusive Holbein Acryla Gouache Set.  Everyone loves Acryla…it’s the gouache that dries permanent like acrylic and the acrylic that is velvety matte like gouache.  It has no color shift from wet to dry, and it’s totally mixable with other gouache, other acrylic, or pretty much any other water-based media you can think of.  And the color palette is large and unique…there’s colors in Acryla that you won’t find in any other paint line.  In fact, this was the catalyst for our exclusive set: combining a range of bread & butter primaries with best-selling, esoteric colors like Ice Green and Horizon Blue.  We think the super sale price for the eighteen 20ml colors alone is enough to make this custom kit a homerun…but wait, there’s more!

To make our set extra special, Holbein North America imported these fantastic, cylindrical metal tins – embellished inside & out with the illustrations of Japanese artist Yuko Higuchi – to package the paint.  Durable and eye-catching, these tins have just enough room to add six more of your favorite 20ml Acryla colors…there’s even a color chart included to help you choose your favorites!

If you’re thinking ahead to gift-giving season, consider this paint set for the graphic designer/illustrator/watercolorist/architect/wood carver on your list…it’s only available at Wet Paint!

Plus, check out the little video we made about this awesome set!

Week 7: What’s your POP preference?

No, we are not talking about soda pop, but Pop Art!  Choose your favorite brand or icon- art supply, celebrity, or soda- and render it bright in one of the stylings of pop artists Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein.  Both of these artists used bright colors, black outlines and graphic details to create their work inspired by POP-ular culture brands, icons, and comics.  Try your hand at a repeated image with bright, colored backgrounds or draw it like a comic book. Note the use of primary and complementary colors in their vibrant works and try limiting your palette to a few colors and black.

On sale this week at Wet Paint is one of our favorite paints: Holbein Acryla Gouache at 35% off MSRP!  It is super versatile and can be applied on paper and panels. Fine tune your pop image with black lines created with the ever-POP-ular Pentel Pocket Brush Pen at 15% off MSRP!

Week 6: Canines, Kitties, and Cake with Maira Kalman

maira-bassetIt’s all of your favorite things in one workout! Including gouache paint!  Check out the bold and beautiful illustrations by Maira Kalman (you may have seen her work in a magazine or children’s book) and take inspiration from her eclectic subject matter.  She has done everything from pets, food, shoes, and beyond.  For this workout, we would like you to focus on a pet and if you don’t have a pet, paint some cake (and then you can enjoy eating it)!  Or maybe surprise a family member with a portrait of their pet… or just cake. Kalman uses gouache and ink in her illustrations, so we suggest using our favorite Acryla gouache from Holbein, and your Pentel Pocket Brush Pen. Look at her brushwork with the noticeable blending and her bright color palette mixed with pastel tones that make her illustrations pop.

Spread2LRG._V198773820_This week at Wet Paint, all Holbein Acryla Gouache is 25% off MSRP, and the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen is 15% off our everyday price!  Stock up, and don’t forget your refills!

WP Weekly Workout- Week 10: Treat Yourself with (Wayne) Thiebaud

wayne-thiebaud-french-pastries We are almost done with our 12 weekly workouts!  Don’t despair…we have another series of inspirational assignments waiting in the wings for the warm weather weeks ahead.  For this week’s workout – since everyone has done such great work to this point – we think you deserve a treat!  Get inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s delicious brushwork and creamy palette in his drool worthy paintings.  Yum! Here is your chance to buy that delectable dessert at your local patisserie and paint it using gouache (if you can wait to eat it!).  Gouache has lovely blending abilities and covering capabilities and has long been used in the graphic and illustration industry.  It has an ease of use similar to watercolor, but the opacity of an acrylic. Play with it and see why it is a favorite sketching medium.

64.11_theibaud_imageprimacy_800This week at Wet Paint, you can choose from the distinctive color palette of Holbein’s Acryla Gouache for 35% off MSRP or the luscious custom Schmincke Horadam Gouache set for only $64 (MSRP retail $119)!  We recommend using a synthetic brush, like the Escoda Tame series which is soft, yet snappy, and 40% off MSRP this week only!  Bon appetite, sweeties!
