Week 11: Lots of Patterns with Lotta Jansdotter

lotta2This week is all about a new technique- set aside your crayons and pencils and let’s make prints!  Taking inspiration from the simple, organic forms like the lovely patterns by Lotta Jansdotter, make your own pattern on a page. This might end up being a great background for your next portrait or a journal page.  For this workout, we recommend Speedy-Cut Carving Blocks from Speedball and Lino Carving Tools also from Speedball.  Start by drawing a simple design in ballpoint pen or pencil- careful not to indent your block.  Then, if your design is detailed, begin carving out those small areas, working to the larger sections.  Take your time.  “Finger behind the blade, no band-aid”- please be careful!  When you’re done carving, use rubber stamp ink and print your pattern!  Feel free to embellish your patterns with color or paint the page before you print.

This week at Wet Paint, all Speedball Carving Tools and Speedy-Cut Blocks are 20% off MSRP! Buy a set or just the pieces and get printing!
